Liverpool have reportedly appointed Manchester City’s Laurie Shaw as the club’s new chief sports scientist.
Shaw joined City Football Group (CFG) in February 2021, having left his role as a research scientist and lecturer at Harvard University to make a career in football.
The Scot was appointed head of AI at CFG before taking up the role of director of football data in September 2023.
However, the แทงบอล UFABET ราคาดีที่สุด ไม่มีขั้นต่ำ reports he is now open to a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool after previously venturing out of the club’s gardening leaf.
However, he was known to football analytics enthusiasts through his EightyFivePoints blog, which applied data science to the analysis of football, as well as his appearances on Professor David Sumpter’s Friends of Tracking YouTube channel.
Shaw, who was born in Manchester and moved to Scotland at the age of nine, graduated with first-class honours in physics from Imperial College London before completing a PhD in astrophysics at Cambridge University in 2006.
At City, Shaw worked under Director of Football Intelligence Brian Prestidge and was promoted to Director of Football Data in September 2023.
The report claims he is keen to work at Liverpool exclusively, despite the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group holding stakes in other sports teams around the world.
Shaw’s new role will see him work under Liverpool’s research director Will Spearman, widely regarded as one of the finest recruiters in football.
